I presented my research paper at the 6th Asian Linguists Conference today, and it was a great joy!
The conference was hosted at Sogang University, Seoul, South Korea (ranked #494 in QS Global World Rankings 2022) - both in-person and online. Michael Barrie and only some students were present in the convention hall due to Covid-19 restrictions (can be seen in the first ss). The biggest achievement was right after my presentation, one of the organizers (faculty), Mr Seunghun Lee [1], asked me more about my research (in the chat section) [2] and proposed that I send my paper for the conference proceedings [3] (publication). He appreciated it by saying- "I liked your research..." and with further chats going on, I gave him an invitation to visit the University of Dhaka, and he wished to meet me in person if he comes (future). … [1]. The person with the widest frame (present on full screen) [2]. The whole chat between me and Mr Lee can be found in all the pictures [3]. Proceedings are conference paper publications, just as there are journal paper publications

My first ever research paper has been published in an Indonesian double-blinded peer-reviewed academic journal of English language teaching. This publishing process has been a tough journey; so much to say about the procedures.
Only the review process took about six months-long periods. Along with the review process, necessary documentation for the research submission was one of the toughest learning curves. Let me explain to you why. When you engage in the publication process, we need to provide academic efforts in the submission of the manuscript as well as replying to each of the questions the reviewers ask on each sentence or paragraph. Replying to the reviewer’s comments is not an easy task, where handling each of the questions raised on your structure and logical arguments might get negative evaluations for certain reasons. In addition, preparing the cover letter and the title page for the manuscript submission was really great learning, which gave me the knowledge for further submission process in other journals. Lastly, it would have not been so easy if the open journal systems did not exist for novice researchers, which was a great help in the submission process and editorial management system- with quite an easy user interface and different sections dedicated to different research items really made it easy for any researchers. Finally, the research has been published on the last day of October 2021, and it was a piece of good news for me to catch! Delighted to know! Yesterday I got featured at Youth Opportunities, an opportunity discovery platform that is working worldwide and has been also awarded several International Prizes for its contribution to Youth Development.
The journey started last year in October 2020, and I joined as a Translator and Linguist in their Bangla team. The main responsibility given to me was translating the English language post to Bangla language, whether it may be Computer-aided translation or it could have been manual translation. In the Bangla department, all the posts needed to be maintained and published in the Bangla language, especially translating 6 posts every week in Bangla language was allocated for each of the team members, and it needed extensive editing for clear delivery. However, with the opportunity I got there, I utilised many applied models of translation, including Machine Translation. One of the biggest issues using the machine translation with those website posts was mistranslating the fragments and the clausal parts hanging with the sentences, which were especially coming from different academic competitions or other global competitions intended for youth. However, I not only tried Google translation but also various other applications. Google translation for those complex paragraphs is very down toward in its performance, although Google has developed bigger NLP projects for human language and machine interaction. The translation tool from Microsoft, Bing translator works better than Google Translate. There are many other tools used by me in the process, especially to get to know how Machine Translation algorithms code could have been built and I found many models of Machine Learning in machine translation codes in GitHub, which are designed by different Scholars working in the field. However, I also worked with Bangla language assistance at Youth Opportunities, for example- preparing the Bangla version of the policy paper proposed to the Government of Bangladesh by Youth Opportunities in the year 2020 needed extended copy editing proofreading and copywriting from a skilled Bangla language editor. as a link that contributed as much as I could to that project. I also worked with Bangla subtitling videos for the opportunity which were part of the national victory day campaign 2020. very recently I worked with the intern and campus Ambassador recruitment project at Youth Opportunities, via I translated all the captioning songs of the Bangla promotional campaign. In my other post, I would be elaborating on the Machine Translation algorithms I worked with, this post is just a glimpse, as they have considered me to be FEATURED at their promotional campaign amongst 11 working team Members at YO Bangla Team. Century winning linguists Noam Chomsky and Krashen has given a very excellent presentation on the views of the Modern Linguistics and its basics. These two great scholar have discussed so greatly on the topic of modern linguistics that there have been no doubt regarding the theories they have propounded in the past.
Final Closing Ceremony (Notices and The Event) Finally, Passed all the Evaluation Tests and Got selected to be certified as a Research Trainee completing the course Successfully
The webinar taught a lot
Linguistics is called the scientific approach to study language; to be more precise the human language. This claim of linguistics being scientific has brought much debate, criticism and queries into existence and also the need to prove the linguistic field as a scientific domain. The problem not only lies with the lay people's understanding with linguistics, but also with many scholars too. Thus, it becomes an impending subject matter to be discussed within and outside the domain to prove the validity or voidness of the claim.
The first ever claim to be made for linguistics as a scientific domain was made by the prominent linguists who tried to explore linguistics in a new horizon. One of the most recent linguist who tried to prove the mentioned proposition with an academic approach and also with strong evidence is Andrew Carnie, in his book 'Syntax : A Generative Approach'. In his book [p] he has shown that the scientific method involved in any kind of scientific inquiry or research. The process involves collecting data to interpretation of the results and finally analyzing the data to derive new opinion. The new opinion will continue to evolve till the process continues to analyze or interpret the new data that will be coming up. This whole explanation breaks the misconception that language is an arbitrary system, although the word 'arbitrary' would need some more explanation, because some prominent figures in linguistics stands between the word linguistics and the word 'arbitrary'. But to say it more easily, we can debunk the misconception of language being a rigid, fixed and dumb faculty. Actually if we look at the most prominent works of late twentieth century of the Great American Linguist Noam Chomsky, we would find that he has already proved the linguistic domain as much scientific as discrete mathematics, and also he has produced such challenges from linguistic data that shook fields like psychology and cognitive science. The challenges still today bring sweat up on the eyebrows of those field scientists and also the topics are well discussed in the academic community. But the most earliest scholar to declare linguistics as a science were not these academics or scholars, but the scholar who had done the bold declaration was the great |
